Abstract: The most important task of the construction industry is the problem of reducing material consumption, which is directly related to the estimated cost of construction. The main factors in this case are: labor intensity and capital intensity of products. The article discusses the main directions of increasing the efficiency of capital investments while reducing the material consumption of construction by saving material resources through corrosion protection of metal in construction. The importance of the problem is determined by the fact that construction is one of the most material-intensive branches of the national economy (more than 20 % of the ferrous metals produced in the country are used in construction). The quality of design solutions is largely determined by how much they meet production requirements, are economical to manufacture and install, and, most importantly, operate. Taking into account the latter factor when applied to steel structures, the key question is about metal corrosion, because every year direct losses amount to about 1 %, and indirect losses reach 25 % of the volume of structures produced. Thus, the problems of reducing and saving the material resources of construction are among the priorities of the construction industry.
