Annotation: The article considers a critical analysis of methods for ensuring the reliability and survivability of spatial rod metal structures in combination with the requirements for preventing avalanche collapse. The review of accidents of constructive form in the form of dome structures is carried out, and some scientific works on ensuring their reliability are analyzed. The main provisions of Russian and foreign norms are considered, which indicate insufficient elaboration of the issue of calculation for progressive collapse for this constructive form. An approach is proposed to implement a comprehensive assessment of reliability and survivability using the author’s software package, which has been tested and has proven itself positively in a number of scientific studies conducted for other structural forms in the form of spatial rod metal structures. Based on the performed critical analysis, significant variable design parameters were identified for the studied structural form. A plan was developed for conducting a numerical experiment to clarify their influence on the features of the stress-strain state, assessing the propensity of the studied structural scheme to possible avalanche-like destruction and the value of the integral indicator of the reliability of the design solution.facilities.

Keywords: large-span domes, reliability, survivability, avalanche-like collapse, key elements, probability of failure.
