Annotation: A case study of elimination of failure consequences in the open-hearth shop of a metallurgical plant is considered in the paper. There is given an analysis of causes of a pouring bay failure and an observation of the structures remained. It was found out that the failure was caused by column inadmissible wear at the level of crane girders and by a freeze-up influence in the equipment installed on the coverage. The inspection showed a high reliability of the building structure which made it possible to localize damages within the end span of the temperature section of 50 m long. Observation of the building state allowed to map out the main stages of the failure elimination including the program of fulfilling the works; a teardown of the damaged floor system, crane girders, columns; repair of the trusses and columns remained; manufacture and assembly of the floor system. When performing the works, the basic task was to combine construction works with the continuous processing procedure in the shop. So a graph of fulfilling the works had to be scheduled, a corresponding dislocation of hoisting cranes was provided, and safety labor conditions were ensured. On the base of the investigations carried out and the building and construction works fulfilled there were given recommendations on providing a trouble-free operation of the metallurgical complex buildings.
